Fine Arts Independent Travel Form November 19th Game #5

Senior Recognition Game:
Senior Parents – We will be displaying a slideshow at this Thursday’s game.  We will be taking pictures of the Seniors this Tuesday directly after rehearsal. We invite you to be included in the pictures and would ask, if you are available, that you come to the end of our rehearsal to take a picture with your student. Our Booster VP will be taking pictures.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to be in the picture with your child, please contact Michele Heginbotham at heg05@live.com. She is willing to meet with you at a different time to get your picture taken with your student.

All pictures will need to be completed by Wednesday. There will not be time for late additions.

If you have not been able to sign up yet, please sign up to help us run our concession stands. There are still games occurring even if the Band is not performing during the week.

Kingwood Park Jazz Ensemble:
Jazz Ensemble Rehearsals Begin Monday, November 16th!

Scholarships/Region Band Auditions:
Audition recordings begin Saturday, November 14th at 10am and end Wednesday, November 18th at 11:59 pm.

5A Region Band Auditions:
Audition recordings begin Saturday, December 5th at 10 am and end Wednesday, December 9th at 11:59 pm. All Students will audition in one audition process. There will NOT be a Round 1 and Round 2 for the 5A auditions.

Solo and Ensemble Competition:
In February, all Band students will participate in an individual competition that is deemed the “Solo and Ensemble Competition.” This competition is a performance by an individual or section of students on a prepared piece of music. Some students will be selecting their own music to prepare while others will be assigned music. We will begin choosing music before the Thanksgiving Break so that students have ample time to prepare for their performance in February.

Spring Concert Bands:
In any other normal year, we would be finished with football/marching season and moving toward a Concert Band setting at this time. Our Concert Band season will be a little delayed, but we are preparing for the Spring now. The breakdown of Band placements for the Spring will be different this year from previous years.

Please Note:
This year is a State Year for 5A Concert Bands. What this means is that our Wind Ensemble will be preparing music to be performed and recorded for submission into the State UIL competition for 5A High School Concert Bands. Auditions for the Kingwood Park concert ensembles will occur at the end of December before the Christmas Break. There will be rehearsal and attendance expectations for participation in any competitive Concert Ensemble. A calendar for next semester’s rehearsals is posted on the Band webpage at the Kingwood Park HS website.

Ordering Uniforms and Other Gear

The Band will not be using the traditional uniforms this year because it could present a contamination issue. Therefore, students are going to be required to purchase a polo shirt and khaki shorts. We know khaki shorts can be purchased anywhere; however, purchasing them from one location ensures that all of the shorts are identical and of a school-appropriate length. These are the only two required items that will need to be purchased. All other items, such as the water jug, dry fit shirt, etc., are optional and can be purchased later.

Band fees are being divided between the 1st and 2nd semesters because we are not sure of what the students will be able to participate in. We will revisit the second amount in December and hopefully get that to you by January. At this time, the fee for the 1st Semester is $125.00. You can pay through the website (under Store) or through our Treasurer, Lynn Baker. Please feel free to email her at kparkbbtreasurer@gmail.com to set that up as soon as possible.

We are asking all forms and payments (whether full or partial) be ordered or brought to the school no later than Wednesday, September 9. Please remember, school employees are not allowed to handle money at all. If you would like to send the money with your child, please make sure that the form (completely filled out) and money are in a sealed, labeled envelope with the student’s name on it. All checks can be made out to KPBand Boosters.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email the KPark Band Booster President, Jessica Bankston, at Kparkbandbooster.president@gmail.com.

Thank you all for your support and patience. We will continue to keep you updated as we know more.

First Game October 2
